Household Sewage Treatment Systems
The Health Department issues permits to install and operate household sewage treatment systems (septic systems).

What do I need to do to install a new system?
- Obtain a soil evaluation from a qualified Soil Evaluator.
- Obtains a Sewage Treatment System design plan written by a qualified Sewage Treatment System Designer. The soil report is used by the designer to properly locate and size the system.
- Apply to the Henry County Health Department for a Site Evaluation.
The Health Department reviews the soil reports, design plan, and the actual site where the system is proposed. If all of the applicable requirements are met, the site will be approved. - Complete and submit an Application for permit to install a Sewage Treatment System to the Henry County Health Department .

I need my system evaluated…What do I do?
Certain types of residential financing programs such as FHA or VA loan programs may require an Evaluation of the home’s Sewage Treatment System be completed. The evaluation may also be requested to simply determine what components make up the system and if it is functioning as it should. Consider having the sewage treatment system evaluated or serviced first by a Sewage Treatment Systems Professional registered by the Henry County Health Department.
